An entertaining and innovative treatment of the classic C.S. Lewis story, this excellent two actor adaptation was created by le Clanché du Rand, and toured by the Lincoln Center. The heroic tale of love, faith, courage, and giving; the life and death struggle for control of Narnia and the grandeur of the triumph of good over evil has enthralled audiences of all ages.
For a week in March 1999, the Greybeard Players became a troupe-in-residence at the Black Mountain Primary School. Monday through Thursday, the Players visited classrooms to talk with the K-3 students about theatre etiquette, history, and upcoming performances of The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe. Wednesday afternoon, they hosted the school's Primary Players, offering the third grade thespians a back stage tour and a sneak peek at a final rehearsal. Friday morning, the whole school visited the theatre for three, 40-minute shows. Many students returned with their families for public performances Friday night and Saturday. The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe lured a total audience of 1200, with gate receipts benefiting the Primary Players. Black Mountain Primary Principal Jerry Green and teachers Cindy Medlock and Karen Bartlett were particularly instrumental in the success of this Greybeard production.
