It's 1895 and young Davey Quinn follows his storytelling grandfather from one Midwestern saloon to another.  When his "Poppy" dies, the hungry orphan acquires traveling companion Frankie, a feisty blind girl escaping an abusive father.  A national manhunt separates the young pair of hobos just as romance is budding between them.

The storytelling skills of David's youth resurface in the "Roaring Twenties," when he's plucked from a Nebraska wheat field and made an unwitting broadcast pioneer.  Soon famous as "The Voice of the Prairie," David relates the tales of his unconventional adolescence to a growing radio audience.

Leon Schwab, David's publicity-hungry business partner, brings together David and the adult Frankie... but no one is prepared for the emotional fall-out of their reunion.

Warm with nostalgia of the American past, tender with the confusing memories of first love, and alive with the comedic spirit of self-determined adventure, John Olive's The Voice of the Prairie was presented at 8:15 p.m., April 19-20 and at 7:15 p.m., April 21, 2001.
